The recently released Healthcare's Climate Footprint found if the healthcare sector were a country, it would be the fifth largest greenhouse gas emitter on the planet and, over 70% of healthcare's climate footprint is due to Scope 3 emissions, that is, products used and discarded, distribution of heat & cooling and, some transportation.
HEARRT Midwest's fall event will focus on the full cost accounting of the supply chain using Practice Greenhealth's new Cost of Ownership calculator, environmentally preferable purchasing (EPP) case studies showing both waste reduction and cost savings from HealthPartners and Mayo Clinic and, at-the-ready EPP contracts and other tools from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and success with fleet services from the office of Enterprise Sustainability. Lunch and tours of the Innovation Center will be provided by 3M.
